Nineteen years ago, Keddy Haines was a close-to-death drug addict who turned his life around and "got clean." Seven years later, a severe eye injury required a career change, and the new work that he chose was drug and alcohol counseling. In this wide-raging conversation with Michael Livingston, Keddy talks about his own addiction and how the experience of overcoming that informs his work today. His approach to those whom he counsels begins with recognizing and respecting their humanity and acknowledging the profound challenges they face. As Keddy says, "to get clean, you just have to change one thing -- everything."
