Repeal Oregon’s status as a “sanctuary state”

Show Notes

The members of the Latinex Student Association at Willamette University College of Law hosted a presentation by the former Oregon lawmaker who crafted the original law creating that sanctuary status. Former state representative Rocky Barilla became the first Latino elected to the state legislature, in 1986. He worked with minorities and tells why that experience led him to write the bill that first made Oregon a “sanctuary state.” That was three decades ago, and today Measure 105 on your fall ballot asks whether we should repeal that “sanctuary” status now.
