Covanta: burning trash to make Electricity – and Pollution?
Show Notes
If political hot potatoes were edible, we’d have a whole buffet of issues this term at the Oregon legislature. But one that’s really heated up in recent years is the debate over whether Marion County gets its money’s worth out of the Covanta plant that burns garbage and turns it into electricity... and whether the pollution from that process is worse than hauling trash to the dump, or if it's a risk at all to public health. This week on the Forum, the engineers who run the plant tell the inside story of how it operates and put it into perspective.
